    Doug Davis almost back

Davis threw 4 2/3 innings for AAA Tuscon on Sunday, allowing 2 runs, 6 hits, one walk, and struck out 5. He is slated to make one more rehab start either Friday or Saturday before being activated. With this scheduling, he will most likely take the place of Max Scherzer in the rotation.

Davis had surgery about a month ago to remove a cancerous tumor from his thyroid. While this is a relatively routine and minor surgery he underwent, just the word "cancer" can strike fear into anyone, and I give this guy mad props for his awesome recovery. Great job Doug Davis.

Doug Davis made his comeback last night and pitched great and got the win. His line was...

    IP: 7.0
    ER: 1
    H: 5
    K:4
    BB: 2

What a great story and great comeback.

It seems that we have had several of these heart warming stories in baseball of late. Starting with Mike Lowell years ago. It is so good that people are beating this dreadful disease.

This is really great to see. Davis and Lester have really shown us something. Really an inspiration to all of us. What seems to be somewhat overlooked is how great he has pitched this year. Granted he has only started 3 games, with what he has been through and what is on his mind his good pitching can't be overlooked.

yes, an inspiration no doubt. I'm just surprised at how quick these guys are coming back from cancer. I know it was a "minor" surgery, but cancer is cancer regardless. He is very lucky that they found it quickly and were able to remove it before it spread. Really...that is incredible luck. And to be right back in baseball. I truly hope he appreciates the opportunity. People don't always get second chances like Davis and Lester have had. It really makes you appreciate life a little more.

^Agreed entirely. Cancer is tough, even if the doctors only call it a minor issue (for now). I'm amazed by these two guys, especially as a person whose family and friends have been affected by cancer. These two are an inspiration to many. Keep it up Doug and Jon!
