Davis Dominates Before Cancer

Doug Davis, 2 days before having surgery for Thyroid cancer, went 6 strong innings, giving up only 6 hits and 2 runs while striking out 7. I personally watched some of the game on MLB.tv, and his curveball was absolutely electric. This was an obviously emotional start for Davis, who will be out 4-6 weeks after doctors remove the cancerous thyroid. No matter how fixable it is, just the notion of having cancer actually in your body is a scary idea, and Davis is clearly handling it very well.

The best part of this: Davis received a standing ovation after walking off the mound, and the crowd wouldn't stop cheering until he came out of the dugout for a curtain call. Classy job by the Arizona fans. I'd love to play in front of them.

Its good to get that first victory under your belt before going into surgery. Chris Singleton was talking about his fight with the same type of cancer and said Davis should be ready to go in 3-4 weeks.
