Mariners infield prospect Dustin Ackley is batting .429 with four home runs and 17 RBI down in the Arizona Fall League.
Ackley, 22, is aiming to land a starting spot on the Mariners' 2011 Opening Day roster and doing a fine job so far. The M's have asked him to be a little more aggressive on the basepaths and view him as a serious base-stealing threat. For now, Ackley is hitting the cover off the ball while also showing great patience at the plate. He has 15 walks in his last 10 games.
Ackley has had only one year of pro-ball so I think all the talk about him being ready for the Opening Day lineup is premature. No sense in rushing this guy over a good AFL. But the future is definitely bright for the M's at second base.

    Reef,

The M's are going to be playing younger next season and would you play Matt Tuiasosopo at 2B for 130 games or Dustin Ackley. He did surprisingly well in his Sept. callup. He might not start the year in Seattle but will probably be called up in May/June. He was also murdering PCL pitching over the last 2 months of the season as well

Re: 2010 Seattle M's Minor News.

Mariners 2B prospect Dustin Ackley has been named MVP of the Arizona Fall League.
Ackley led the league in batting average (.424), OBP (.581), SLG (.758), OPS (1.338) and runs scored (28) while also going 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. The No. 2 overall pick from the 2009 draft, Ackley will go into spring training with an eye on winning the starting second base job. His .267/.368/.407 batting line between Double- and Triple-A this past season wasn't anything special, but he closed the season nicely after a slow start and it obviously carried over into the AFL.
Not too shabby eh? Congrats to Ackley
