Castillo Released

Phillies released 2B Luis Castillo.
Well, this is a surprise. Castillo got off to a shaky start with his new club, but looked like the favorite for the second base job over the past week. Apparently the Phillies weren't convinced and will go with Wilson Valdez as the starter. Look for Castillo to latch on elsewhere.

This has nothing to do with Castillo making the team but this offense has become slightly above average with Werth gone and Utley hurt. I thought Castillo was their best option but apparently not. Wilson Valdez is ok defensively but provides very little with the bat. I'm starting to think the Braves are the team to beat in the East.

Perhaps everyone is mistaken that Castillo brings anything to the table. He's been cut by two teams with no viable 2b option at this time. That does say a lot if you ask me.

If you're not a sit-back-and-wait-for-the-home-run kind of team, Luis Castillo is an excellent fit.
