Apparently he was told on July 22nd that he's gone but it wasn't official until today because they wanted him to sign the draft picks.

Seems kinda odd to tell a guy he's going to be fired and then leave him in charge of your money.

Don't get me wrong. Hendry did great things for this organization. Raping the Pirates for Aramis Ramirez and Kenny Lofton... Doing the same to the Marlins for Derrek Lee. But he really handcuffed this team with the FA/extension signings. I'm mostly excited because this means Quade will most certainly not be back next season. Also, maybe us Cubs' fans can finally say goodbye to EVERY player getting a NTC.

Now I really can't wait until after the season to find out who else gets canned, and who the replacements will be.

Sounds like the Trailblazers GM last year, I think, as he was fired but stayed on to help draft. This a great day for Cubs fans but only a great one if they sign a competent GM. I expect Reagins to be the next GM fired. Think Sandberg would come back if offered the Cubs job?

It would be interesting to see just what Cashman can do without owners breathing down his neck since no one really knows what deals are Cashman's idea and which ones are Steinbrenner's. Last thing the Cubs need are deals like ARod's and Jeter's plus they already have a shitty deal with a Soriano.
