he seems to have quite the boner for this show. but he also agreed makabe/ishii was better than aj/naito. so go me! i think everything is overrated, though i really have no problem with the two main events getting over 4 stars. i dont know if id give anything else 4 stars though. of course, i dont have an exact system here... i just know that 5 stars = all time memorable, 4 stars = pretty goddamn awesome, and so on.
I read somewhere that Meltzer gave 7 matches ****+, which is obviously wrong. Still...**** for the opener may be the most generous thing I've ever seen outside of Taker/Foley KOTR 98.

I haven't watched any of the show but judging by the star rating he's trying to do whats best for him (#asspocket/his daily job) and make this show into something it probably wasn't and thats an all time great PPV.
Meltzer is typically stingy with US matches and has an overwhelming love for anything Tanahashi. He's only give five stars to fifteen NWA/WCW/WWF matches ever, and only one of them are after 1997, Cena/Punk from MITB'11.

Adding in his 1 TNA and 4 ROH matches, that's 20 ***** US matches between 1986 and 2015 for Meltzer. Which seems like it may be a little low, but it's probably not.

agreed. it was a solid match, a nice little start for what was to come... but thats about it. it wasnt a classic, it told very little story, it was essentially just a spot fest to get 8 awesome wrestlers on the card.

    Re: Global Force Wrestling!

    I'll give "my ratings".

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship match ***
Tenzan, Kojima and Honma vs. Bullet Club *
Marafuji, Yano and TMDK vs. Suzukigun *
    Suzuki vs. Sakaruba ***
    Makabe vs. Ishii ***1/4
    Omega vs. Taguchi ***
Shibata and Goto vs. Bullet Club ***½
    AJ vs. Naito ****
    Nakamura vs. Ibushi *****
    Tanahashi vs. Okada ****1/2

I've been a Nakamura fan for a couple of months, ever since I started watching NJPW. I didn't get a lot of watching of Ibushi, so I had to go back and watch some of his other work. Last years match against Prince Devitt was quite good, so I suggest that to those that need a Kota Ibushi refresher. So yeah, that's my match of the night, and one of the best I've seen in a long time.

Also, I like Ishii, but didn't like this match. Go back a couple months and watch his match with Goto. Much better work, and if they did a long match at Wreslte Kingdom it could have been great.

Tanahashi is indeed Cena 2.0. They sell him as the guy that overcomes the odds, Hustle, hard worker, respect, dedicated, loyalty, etc...
I like Okada a lot and feel bad because I really don't know where they will go with him, what's he gonna do next. I really don't see them giving him another shot anytime soon. *sadface

Also I give Striker *****. Really liked his work. Next GFW broadcast, give time give him Tony Schiavone.

    Oh, boo, nevermind.

The next GFW show is with a South African Promotion that features Joe E. Legend.

I'd guess you'll see Double J and a couple others there as well.

Also, i thought they had an agreement with AAA as their Mexican territory? Maybe I am wrong.

It probably is AAA, since Jarrett was their champion a couple years ago. I can tell the difference between Japan stuff, but Lucha is still all the same to me, at this point.

    Re: Global Force Wrestling!

February 11 is: Styles v. Tanahashi. (And Nagata, Makabe & Naito v. Nakamura, Ishii and YOSHI-HASHI)

February 14 is: Nakamura v. Nagata (And Rob Conway v. Tenzan for the NWA title. Should be interesting)

I'm guessing they're both on New Japan World.

    Re: Global Force Wrestling!

Since they broke off from TNA, they run indy shows and stuff. It's not big or anything, but they still have the NWA name.
