    Pretty straight-forward selection.

How can you not vote for Miguel when he's about to win the triple crown?

Well, hammer is a crackhead and Zod usually just votes on either people on the Reds or who ever has the nicer hairdo.

I fully expected someone to complain about someone being left off. To which I would find hilarious..

in my opinion... Triple Crown = Auto MVP
    MSL - Chicago Cubs - 14 seasons 1,243-1,025. .548% 5 division titles TSL - New York/Boston - 1 season 1,026-756 .576%. 5 division titles

Re: 2012 A.L. Most Valuable Player

triple crown should not automatically equal the mvp. when mike trout was called up, the angels were 6-14 and floundering. after his call up, they had the best record in the league. nobody in the league does more things well than trout, and he already might be the best center fielder in the league. meanwhile, cabrera is still pretty pathetic at 3rd base.

all of that said, i dont believe theres a wrong answer here. i just dont think that the triple crown should mean its an automatic. and dont give me the playoffs argument bullshit, trout shouldnt be punished because the rest of cabreras division sucks, and the other two [relevant] teams in trouts division, are gonna make the playoffs.

Before Trout was called up the Angels had completed a whopping 12.3 percent of their schedule. That's what I call a small sample size.

Miguel Cabrera is about to accomplish something that hasn't been accomplished since 1967. That's an auto MVP ticket right there.

Re: 2012 A.L. Most Valuable Player

the only thing cabrera has done better than trout is home runs. defense is way in trouts favor, stolen bases/base running are way in trouts favor and hes walked more than cabrera [in 70 less at bats]. strikeouts favor cabrera, fine, thats somewhat irrelevant, but since you can make the case about important outs and that a strikeout cant possibly advance somebody, ill give you that too... and yea you can tell me about rbis, but since rbis and runs are team dependent stats, i eliminated them. one goes to trout, one goes to cabrera anyway.

trouts on base percentage is better than cabreras, thus why i made the statement that the strikeouts thing was fairly irrelevant. so yea, before you attack the most miniscule point of the post.

RBIs being team dependant makes it a somewhat overrated stat but you can't just completely eliminate them.

Somebody getting an RBI is still the one putting the ball in play allowing the run to score.

as for the sample size... sure, that works. cabreras played in every game but 1 for detroit... so ill take off a loss, just for the sake of argument. thus, theyre 87-73 in miggys game. the angels are 83-58 in trouts.

So, let me get this straight.

You want to completely eliminate RBIs because they require help from the team but you make an argument for Trout because his team has a better winning percentage while he was on the roster?

and you gotta be on base, in order for someone to put the ball in place for the run to score. so trouts 130 runs scored are important [and overall fairly ridiculous], thus why i cancelled them both out.

i cancelled out/eliminated BOTH rbis and runs, because it was team dependent. one favors trout, one favors cabrera. if you wanna throw them back in, feel free.

and yea, i wanna make the case that the angels went from 6-14 without trout, and 83-58 with him. BUT, if you wanna eliminate team records... base running, defense, walks, runs to trout... homers, rbis and strikeouts to cabrera. trout still does more things well than cabrera.

Just because somebody else is doing part of the work doesn't mean they're doing all the work.

Miguel still gets credit for his RBIs.

    And RBIs >>> Runs scored.

It takes more effort and ability to put the baseball in play than it does to just run the bases when somebody else puts the ball in play.

I'm obviously not saying that base running is a very easy task, of course, but when it compares to a task that a 70 percent failure rate is considered successful it is very easy by comparison.

Re: 2012 A.L. Most Valuable Player

Hmm. Arguments. Debates. Awhh, so thoroughly missed.

It's an incredible race because I think what Trout is doing/has done has been incredible. A rookie made more of an impact that Pujols, Wilson, or Greinke. At the same time, I feel like the team the Angels assembled even before Trout, was much more talented than Detroit's. Sure, they bought Fielder. But their rotation compared to LA's? Plus the acquisition of Frieri...yet they lost out to a team that combined makes less than Pujols does a year (I'm clearly stretching that). Trout's a 30/30 man and should be a run away Gold Glove winner.

    All that said.

Triple crown. There doesn't need to be much said beyond that. Cabrera and Verlander have carried that team for years. It's a testament to how good they are and how mediocre the rest of the team truly is.
