Question Who is the NL MVP?

Do you like the best numbers while being on the worst team? Do you like a spark plug on the best team but not necessarily the best numbers? Are you fine picking between teammates that are equally valuable to their contending team?

It's been a strange year for MVP talk. There's clearly no ONE obvious choice. And we've have crazy halves by players. For example, the second half for Pujols, Uggla, and Tulowitzi have been awesome but lackluster (or worse) first halves brought their overall numbers down a notch. Pujols have great numbers right now, as is, but it's a down year by his own standards. Joey Votto is also having an impressive year, but it's a down year compared to last season. And then back to the subject of Pujols, he has two teammates right now with similar numbers:

    Berkman: 31 HR, .300 AVG, .411 OBP, .963 OPS
    Holliday: 22 HR, .295 AVG, .388 OBP, .915 OPS
    Pujols: 37 HR, .304 AVG, .372 OBP, .927 OPS

Collective MVP award? Especially if they catch Atlanta? I didn't want to list them at first, but might as well considering.

We were ready to crown Jose Reyes the man months ago. Then the Mets sucked again, and he got hurt again. Hey, still an awesome year but just not enough to make the cut.

Re: Who is the NL MVP?

this one is gonna be a nice battle from the media, because its the perfect example of... do you vote for the best player on a playoff team... or just the best player. theres no question matt kemp is the best offensive player in the national league [maybe all of baseball]... at the same time, they couldve missed the playoffs with or without him.

personally... i think the media will vote for matt kemp, and if i had a vote myself... id go against my normal beliefs, and give it to matt kemp. braun and fielder steal votes from each other, theyd likely be my 2-3 anyway.

I wanted to vote for Upton, but the others' numbers are more impressive.

I went with Kemp, maybe because I would refuse to vote for division rivals?

Matt Kemp. Better numbers all-around, more important position, tougher home ballpark, better competition.

But go ahead and argue senselessly that he's not as valuable because he has the worse supporting cast.

In my mind, it kinda supports his case more to me. He and Kershaw are posting such good numbers with a mediocre supporting cast. Who's hitting in front of Kemp? A previously corpse of Furcal, Aaron Miles, Andy Roddick, Larry the Cable Guy, and some random Asian guy?

I pick Kemp too, awesome numbers. Almost a 40/40 guy at this very moment. Braun would be my next pick, better all-around stats than his teammate.

Kemp without a doubt. He, along with Kershaw, has lead his team to respectability. Fielder and Braun split their vote and Pujols and Berkman do the same. Upton would be 2nd on my list.

Not shockingly, Kemp's home run (his 37th of the year) drove in just himself.
