Who is the NL Manager of the Year?

Sure, a few months ago, we were gift wrapping the award for Clint Hurdle. Then reality set in.

Pretty self explanatory, roll however you want to.

It sucks to see Gibby in an enemy uniform.

all 4 of the top candidates are real tight... i discount manuel, that team is pretty much push button, his biggest decision of the year was who to go to at closer after lidge than contreras than madson got hurt.

i guess id go with la russa... that teams season was supposed to be down the tubes when wainwright went down. if kennedy doesnt find his magic potion, gibson probably doesnt even get any mention here, though he did a real nice job anyway... gonzalez deserves credit for doing it with a real young team [+ chipper jones], hed probably be my number 2. i guess id go gibson 3rd, i think the brewers are fairly push button too.

I have been in arguments all week with Giants fans thinking Bochy is a good manager. They need to look at the division leader Gibson to see what a good manager is. He plays the guys who are producing and doesn't favor veterans. He puts runners in motion and creates opportunities for them to score. I have been very impressed with his first year as manager and hope he wins the award. I even hope he does the fist pump like in the '88 World Series when he wins it

Bochy was good enough to win the WS last year.

but I do know what you're saying. All those complaints seem awefully familiar.

I agree with Hammer about LaRussa, but I think Gibby has done a phenominal job with the Backs.

If Guillen was allowed to be on the roster, Giants don't win shit!

Well, it's not as if he had inherited a bunch of veteran scrubs taking up spots in the lineup, and even when he did he stuck with them for a majority of the year, for example Miranda/Nady at first base before Goldschmidt was called up in August and Kelly Johnson at 2B before he was traded for Aaron Hill.

Add Allen to the list of 1b and you forgot to mention benching Mora for Roberts after Roberts played his way into the lineup. So no, he didn't just stick with anything.

Gotcha. So if only Don Mattingly had an in-house option like Ryan Roberts to save his team from being stuck with Juan Uribe and Aaron Miles at 3b, he'd be a good manager too.

Depends on if he would stick with Uribe and Miles or not.

Even then, it's giving too much credit to the manager for the hand he's dealt with.

No it's not. I have had to watch a manager do the opposite all season long.

Re: Who is the NL Manager of the Year?

The Giants' problem has been that most of their regular position players this year range from 0.5 to 1.4 Wins Above Replacement. Hard to fault a manager for having to juggle between guys who by some metric have had less value than Jamey Carroll.
