Baseball Slant 2011 1st Half AL MVP

Who is your 1st half AL MVP? I went with Adrian Gonzalez and this was a hard one. Jose Bautista and AGon are going to have a fight on their hands but AGon has been the constant force in the Red Sox lineup all season long. Even when they were struggling in the first weeks of the season, AGon was hitting. he wasn't hitting for power just yet but he was hitting. When he starting to really get in a groove and start hitting for power, that's when the team took off and sent a ripple effect through the lineup. I know Bautista has the stats but AGon picked up that team's offense and sent them towards the top of the AL East. Who are you taking?

I agree with this... However they usually give it to a player who's team makes the playoffs. Therefore Joey Bats only chance of an MVP is being traded to a contender.

I went with Asdrubal, because he has been the most consistent Indian, and probably single handily led the Indians to where their are right now, despite keys injuries
to their lineup(Sizemore, Choo, and Hafner).

I geek out every time I look at Bombtista's numbers.

A MVP isn't an award for the player with the best stats.

Last I checked, it was the most valuable player to their team. That's how I based my votes.

I'm sure there are other components to determine a player's value aside from his raw stats, but team winning percentage shouldn't be one of them.

Don't think anyone mentioned team winning percentage

SMH. Team winning percentage, team standings, it's the same idea.

Re: 2011 1st Half AL MVP

The point being made is that it's the player most valuable to his team, hence "Most Valuable Player".

That doesn't necessarily mean the best player on the team with the best record, but it also doesn't mean the player with the best overall stats.

Don't know what SMH means but no one has mentioned winning percentage or standings as a reason.
