What do you think Tim Lincecum is worth?

Lincecum's agent and the Giants have recently submitted figures for arbitration. We'll know tomorrow what those numbers are, if it's not leaked before that (what isn't leaked these days?). It is expected that Lincecum will want a record amount of money for a 1st time salary arbitration player.

He's the reigning Cy Young, two years running now, he likes a little pot, has crazy sports hair, and some of the most awesomely nasty pitches in the bigs. So he's worth a big figure and ultimately, one day soon, a big hefty contract.

    Right?

Re: What do you think Tim Lincecum is worth?

With D-Train receving $4.4 million after arbitration, which is a record for pitching. Jonathan Papelbon avoided arbitration and received a pitcher's record $6.25 million. Of course, these records are for first time eligibles.

Without a doubt, Lincecum will blow this out of the water. He is on another level than these record holders. He will be more copmarable to the position player with the record $10 million dollars earned in 2008. This belongs to none other than the Phillies' slugger Ryan Howard. Howard had an MVP in his tenure before arbitration. And as KOZ noted; Lincecum has two Cy Youngs.

Lincecum has to be rated amongst his peers, and I am just not sure there is a peer that can say they are both as good as him, and as young as he is. I believe he will be over $14 million and would guess he could get $15 million or more! He is that good!

I believe he's worth more than 14+ Million, reminds me of the Ryan Howard situation, didn't get 10+ million after his MVP season?

I think he gets 12 at the very least. And no should blink if he gets more.

I agree with Zito here. 12 mil at least. That's what a 2-time reigning Cy Young guy should get

Felix is estimated to get 10 mill thru his 1st year of arby.

So I think Tiny Tim will get around 13 mill.

Re: What do you think Tim Lincecum is worth?

I would like to have a transcript of his arbitration hearing because I want to know how the Giants could possibly argue for pushing his dollar value down, besides expressing reluctance to pay him a record setting amount of money. They can't question his durability because that would be a lie since it has never been an issue to them.

Their transcript will include a bit where he needs to become a better hitter, or at least better than 60% of their lineup (which isn't asking too much!).

What do you think Lincecum's # is, and what do you think the Giants will offer? Hearing date set?
    Rob Neyer (12:08 PM)

This won't go to a hearing, and I think they'll settle on something like $14-$15M.
    Here is Neyer's absentee ballot!

    Lincecum is seeking 13 million...

Giants offered 8 million. What cheap-****s. They couldn't even offer 10 million? They think he's worth less than K-Rod or Ryan Howard?

Re: What do you think Tim Lincecum is worth?

Okay, so it's cheap in considering who's gotten more and that it's only Tim Lincecum. I figured the giants would surprise some and offer a bigger sum. So where do you think he ends up from here?

A split compromise would be 10.5 million. It's crazy that anyone would be arguing with these numbers, that he's getting low balled, but then again, we're used to ridiculous contracts for players undeserving.

The offer of 8 almost HAS to be just setting a mid-point for the contract he signs. The Giants will probably offer 11 million or so to avoid arb.

Tim is asking for less than Felix's proposed deal. The Giants only offered 8 Mill? He's worth less than Jarrod Washburn last season?!!?
