Nationals What will Stephen Strasburg sign for?

A hugely hyped #1 draft pick, with Mr. Boras as an agent, and with said agent trying to set a new precedent for top-tier talent and their value... how do you believe this Strasburg drama will end?

Boras has already stated that Strasburg is a "different breed of cat" and there has been rumors of amounts as high as $50 million.

50 mil for a guy who's never thrown one pitch at the minor league level, nevermind major league level....

Baseball needs a freakin rookie cap. (The NFL does as well, but at least their rookies go straight to the team that drafts them.)

There is no reason Strasburg can't be the ace of the Nationals immediately

I think the Nationals should publicly say they are offering a 28 mil bonus take it or leave it... get this done ASAP either way so your fans aren't worried the whole summer and thinking u are trying to low ball him

I can name one reason. He hasn't faced major league hitting yet.

It's nice that he's been able to dominate college hitters, but I'm going to wait and see how he performs against professional hitters in the minors, and then major league hitters at the pro level before I start labeling him an ace.

With Boras as his agent... I highly doubt he sees one day of minor league baseball

Can he control that? And does he even care?

As long as Stephen gets paid Boras gets paid, whether he's at the major league level or not.

Besides, none of that negates my points anyways. Strasburg is still no ace until he proves he can get major league hitters out. That doesn't change even if Boras somehow forces Washington to start him at the major league level immediately (which would be stupid.)

If I were the Nationals GM. I wouldn't even draft this kid, knowing what kind of money him and his agent want, I would give him the finger and draft the next best guy in line, not him! You earn your money by proving yourself in the big leagues, like Griffey, Arod, and the rest!

Of course he cares, the sooner Strasburg is in the majors the sooner he hits FA. Of course he can control it, Scott Boras can control anything... he got Jason Varitek the C (although he deserves it). He can negotiate language into the contract where it is cheaper for the Nationals if he pitches right away in the majors.

This is going to be interesting how this works out cause Boras has a full house and the Nationals are working with a 10 high poker hand.

I said 20-25 million. The record bonus is just over $10 million for Mark Prior and look how that turned out.

Even more stupidity in an asinine system if an agent can control the development of a player like that.

Baseball's financial system is so ****ed it's a ****ing joke.

And, again, none of that negates my point that Strasburg is no ace until he proves he can face major league hitters.
