Find me a quote that says otherwise, but I believe he was slated to platoon with Ryan Freel in left, facing RHP. Or so their bonehead Cubs retread GM Andy Macphail said anyway.
I didn't realize he was having such a bad spring. Although, when your alternative is Ty Wigginton, who has no upside at this point and is a what you see, what you get type of player, AND you're going to be a 3rd or 4th place team... I think I would start Pie and roll with it. He's tapped out in the minors, he isn't going to get any better down there... he needs to face big league pitching & big league breaking balls. He's out of options anyway, so they'll atleast be forced to carry him (or so I would hope...)

He is definitely making the best of it isn't he Dirty? I like seeing it against the Nationals who basically gave up on him.

It would be nice if he can also make the Dbags pay for having traded him for Jon Rauch.
