    Game What country will win the 2009 World Baseball Classic?

    Assuming you are familiar with the 'major' teams in the tournament and their rosters, who on paper looks like the champion?

    Due to poll limitations I left the following off the poll which you can select as Other: Australia, Chinese Tai Pei, Netherlands, Panama and South Africa.

    Pool play:

    Pool A: Japan wins the pool, Korea runner-up.
    Pool B: Mexico wins the pool, Cuba runner-up.
    Pool C: USA wins the pool, Venezuela runner-up.
    Pool D: Dominicans win the pool, Puerto Rico runner-up.

    Pretty straight-forward so far.


    Round 2:

    Pool 1: Japan wins the pool, Cuba runner-up.
    Pool 2: USA wins the pool, Dominicans runner-up.


    Semi-finals:
    Japan defeats Cuba
    Dominicans defeat USA


    Finals:

    I have Japan with to win the tournament in a repeat, as they are the team with the best fundamentals. I have the Dominicans as the runner-up in the finals.

    Kind of straight-forward. Really shouldn't be any upsets.

    I think everyone is underestimating Cuba again, they have guys no one knows about and there aren't reports on these guys so they have the advantage. They also did make the final last year.

    browntown653, Buckcheeks, Doppelgänger, ljshorty89, missionhockey21 nd Wilton are all wrong so far. I would have picked Puerto Rico but didn;t see this in time to vote.
