I didn't know Dusty Baker had come back.
Baker never ruined an arm and Bochy just had to give the critics what they wanted, a complete game shutout. Funny thing is, this kid's arm never hurts. If Lincecum didn't lock it up last night, may god strike the writers dead.
So long to Sabathia's minuscule Cy Young hopes? He lost to the Reds today. The friggin' REDS. That's two losses in a row for the big fella.
22nd win of the season for Brandon Webb and his Dbags. Shit.
Lincecum got spanked around by the Rockies tonight and wasn't able to make it out of the 5th inning. Ouch. Good thing for him is that he has one last start in the season finale to attempt to make it up and end the season on a positive note. But Webb also has one more start to possibly win his 23rd game. It could all hinge on this final weekend.
Lincecum- 17-5, 2.66 ERA, 220 IP, 252 K, 82 BB, 2 CG, 1 SHO, 25 QUALITY STARTS, 1.18 WHIP
Webb- 22-7, 3.24 ERA, 219.2 IP, 176 K, 63 BB, 3 CG, 1 SHO, 24 QUALITY STARTS, 1.20 WHIP
Santana- 15-7, 2.64 ERA, 225.1 IP, 197 K, 60 BB, 2 CG, 1 SHO, 27 QUALITY STARTS, 1.17 WHIP
-- Opposing base stealers are 6/11 against Santana; 19/21 against Lincecum, and 24/33 against Webb
-- OBP against Santana is .289. OBP against Lincecum is .299. OBP against Webb is .301.
The race is close. It should go to Lincecum. My question is, would anyone still be shocked if Santana takes 2nd place?
I did some research and got this.
Pitcher's W/L record after a loss by there team.
Webb 7-7
Santana 8-4
Lincecum 13-3
Now I know the W/L record shouldn't be relevant, but for Lincecum to go 13-3 on a crappy team is pretty impressive, compare to Santana and Webb who's teams have been contending all year long.
Can't really compare opposing base stealers since Santana is lefthanded and Webb and Lincecum are not. Lincecum should still win it but Santana and Webb are also right there with him. They also changed an error to a hit which costs Lincecum two ERs.
That's a fair point, but Santana's move is nothing special. I still understand your point though. Santana is right there in the talks though...and if he had the 7 wins that his bullpen blew, he'd be leading conversations...
Lincecu should, i repeat, should be a lock. However, the voters really tend to get bonerized about wins, which would give an edge to Webb. If you ask me, strikeouts and ERA are much more indicitive of how good a pitcher is compared to wins. If you serve up 10 runs but your team just happens to score 15 runs, how good of a pitcher are you?
This is precisely why I think Randy Johnson is better than Roger Clemens, contrary to what ESPN and apparently the United States thinks. But that may be a discussion for a different thread....
Some might have changed their minds now with the whole steroid cloud over Clemens. I agree with all but one comment and that's with the strikeouts. Strikeouts don;t really all that much to me but they are nice to have when you walk a lot of hitters like Lincecum tends to do.
