The Nationals have acquired infielder Cesar Izturis from the Brewers, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports (on Twitter). The Nationals obtained Izturis on a waiver claim, Amanda Comak of the Washington Times reports (on Twitter).

Izturis has a .235/.248/.333 batting line in 169 plate appearances this year. The 32-year-old has played all four infield positions with Milwaukee, and his versatility will prove useful in Washington. The Nationals needed infield depth with Ian Desmond on the disabled list and Mark DeRosa battling a groin injury. Izturis earns $875K this year and will hit free agency this offseason.
I like what the Nats are doing which is strengthening the bench. First it was Suzuki and now Izturis. Izturis shouldn't start any but could come in as a pinch runner/late inning defensive replacement.
