The Nationals have exercised a 2012 option on manager Davey Johnson.
Johnson is 68 years old -- one year older than Tony La Russa, who retired on Monday morning -- but he still has great passion for the game and led the Nationals to a surprising 40-43 record after taking over for Jim Riggleman in June. The Nats are expected to be active in free agency again this offseason and will look to take another step forward in 2012 with Johnson at the helm.
I am surprised by this. Why not just go out and get someone for the future instead of holding onto the 68 year old one more year? I don't see what good it does. Could have had Riggleman who everyone on the Nats liked but chose not to extend him for this? Rizzo definitely messed up this situation.
