Nationals LaRoche done for the year

Adam LaRoche will have season-ending shoulder surgery on Thursday.
It's probably for the best. LaRoche tried to play through a torn labrum in his left shoulder this season, but batted just .172/.288/.258 with three homers and 15 RBI over 177 plate appearances. He's still under contract for $8 million next season, so the Nationals will hope to get at least some return on their initial investment.
LaRoche would have to have a monster year to get anything close to a reasonable return on their investment. He will be 32 next season so its not like he is old or anything so he should be able to recover and hit his usual 20-25 HRs and play good defense.

I didn't really understand why they were letting him try to play through a relatively serious injury that wouldn't heal without surgery. It's not like he was dominating despite it, it was clearly causing him trouble. Nationals will have to hope that he recovers fully for next season and gets back to old LaRoche.
