Nationals signed RHP Livan Hernandez to a one-year extension worth $1 million plus incentives.
This one makes a whole lot of sense for both sides. Hernandez, 35, is 9-9 with a 3.49 ERA in 27 starts covering 175 1/3 innings. Livo, however, had a tough time finding a contract in the offseason and settled on a minor-league contract with the Nationals that ended up netting him just $900,000. He doesn't strike many batters out, but the veteran innings eater has displayed typically stellar control with a 2.8 walk rate.
Livan might just be the best bang for the buck this season so this comes at no shock. Well, some shock considering Rizzo and the Nats only gave him a $100k raise and didn't go completely overboard. Sure there are incentives but that is the smart way to go. Nats just locked up a starter for next year.
