    Attention! Tommy John for Strasburg

He will likely require the infamous surgical procedure. Ugh with a side of blah.

Stephen Strasburg likely will have Tommy John surgery - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Strasburg has a significant tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.

Thought so. The way he torques and whips his arm, it was inevitable.

Oh well, guess the Nats can look forward to Bryce Harper.

Maybe instead of converting Harper to OF they will make him a pitcher.

Lest someone mentions it, this can't be blamed on his Inverted W motion. Otherwise, his shoulder would've been the victim, as Mark Prior is well familiar with.

No, but it can be blamed on the way he whips his elbow when delivering. They broke it down on Baseball Tonight and Curt Schilling said is windup and arm slot are the contributing factors to the torque he applies to his elbow.

Lincecum also throws with a whip-like action when delivering and puts massive amount of torque to his elbow, but people don't seem to think he'll break down.

Actually, I have heard a lot of analysts say that he needs to change his motion or he is risking injury. Plus, Lincecum's motion is more overhand, which would damage the shoulder and not the elbow. Strasburg's delivery is 3/4, which puts a lot more strain on his elbow.

It does suck, no more big attendance once a week.

Lincecum's windup cannot be compared to anyone else's so let's not pretend to know anything about it. All I know is Timmy's arm has never hurt him so I don't foresee any problems. He uses his whole body like no other.

This is really unfortunate for Strasburg, the Nationals and baseball in general. The Nats did everything they could to make sure this didn't happen but it did. Strasburg leaves, Jordan Zimmerman comes back. I was really hoping to see this 1-2 combo this September too. I hope Strasburg can come back 100% and dominate baseball for a decade or so.

I don't know if it's an inverted W or a Converted Q or a contorted Y, but I do know that he's been injured twice this year now and is now out for the majority of next season.

Roy Halladay also throws with a 3/4 arm slot, yet he's never had a major arm problem. And as you indicated, throwing overhand is no less a stressful motion. Every pitcher's body works differently, so you can't predict when his arm will give out.

This is obviously heartbreaking news for Nationals fans, as I know I'd be just bummed out if I was a Nats fan. Young pitchers like him, for many reasons, are gambles and even if there is some hardship for them now, it could be MUCH worse than TJS.

That said, can we put those Strasburg t-shirt jersey's on the DL in other club's stadium gift shops? Please.

So will the Natinals be the first team to have a rotation with 5 pitchers who have had Tommy John surgery? They'll already have 2 of the 5.
