    Nationals Dunn put on waivers

    Not surprised by this move.

"The Washington Nationals placed slugging first baseman Adam Dunn on waivers Tuesday afternoon -- a standard move they were expected to make, a source told ESPN.

As a player on revocable waivers, Dunn can be pulled back in the event he is claimed by another team. Other clubs have 48 hours to place a waiver claim on the 30-year-old slugger, with National League teams getting the first crack at acquiring him.

It is widely believed that Dunn will be claimed by an NL team before any American League club has an opportunity to acquire him. The Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees all expressed interest in Dunn before the July 31 MLB non-waiver trade deadline.

If another team places a claim on Dunn, the Nationals would have three options. They could allow him to go to that team, trade him to the team awarded the claim, or pull him off waivers and have him finish the rest of the season in D.C. Once a player is pulled off waivers he cannot be placed back on it. If the Nationals let Dunn go to another team, that team absorbs Dunn's contract."

No question about that. With a productive bat and a salary that isn't crazy, there is a handful of teams I could see putting a waiver claim on him.

Question is, will the Nats pull him back?

They still want to resign him but if they can gt better than 2 draft picks I am sure they would trade him.

Rizzo seems to be a smart guy and will get an extension done but only after offering arbitration. Dunn will shop himself around and realize he won't get the five year deal he wants and Rizzo will be there to lure him back in. They have the funds to bring him.

I don't see the Nats letting him walk this season. They are just seeing what he'll bring to them in return.
I think they will get a deal done to keep him in Washington for a while. They have a great bunch of kids ready to show what they can do.

Hank Schulman of the SF Chronicle says it was probably the Dodgers who sent the F*** You waiver claim to the Giants.

Not surprising that the Dodgers would do it, nor surprising that he didn't fall that low without a claim. However, it is still pretty funny.

    Re: Dunn put on waivers

I had a feeling he would go Babe Ruth against the Dodgers after this.

Oh well, it just makes the Giants and Padres wish even more that they have him, so be it.

    Re: Dunn put on waivers

Giants weren't going to get him anyway. They weren't going to pat the price the Nats had on Dunn so its all moot

Trade Manny for Dunn... Reds end up with Mannywood and the Nats get prospects.
