For a few weeks this spring, the Washington Nationals entertained the idea of Gustavo Chacin as a candidate for their big league rotation. Turns out, the lefty could not even crack their Class AAA rotation. As a result, the Nationals have released Chacin, who had been signed this winter to a non-guaranteed minor league deal. The team never announced Chacin's release; word of the move only came on Tuesday when Manager Manny Acta was asked about Chacin's whereabouts.
He was released and immediately signed by the Phillies. The Phillies are short on lefties since Romero is serving 50 games. He is just protection now. The Nats have younger arms to consider at this point.
