    Nationals Wily Mo Waives Goodbye

Nationals waived outfielder Wily Mo Pena.
Pena hit .276 this spring, but with just one extra-base hit in 29 at-bats, he didn't attract any interest in trade talks. He'll clear waivers and probably head to Triple-A in order to collect his $2 million salary. Ideally, though, he'd find his way to an organization with a less crowded outfield.
Pena has been a huge disappointment for the Nats. Last year he hit just .205/.243/.267 in 64 games. He is oft-injured and strikes out a ton. He will likely find a job but it take a lot to see him in a ML uniform again. The White Sox could use OF help as could the Marlins and Rockies.

Supposedly Pena was seen shaking hands and such leaving so the guess is he'll accept the AAA assignment.

His contract really was the end of his career. He had a lot of talent, but being forced onto an MLB roster before he was ready and could develop any plate discipline never allowed him to develop to full potential.

Aren't the Marlins still looking for a 4th/5th OF, or are they looking for a vet like Luis Gonzalez?

Nationals released outfielder Wily Mo Pena.
Pena refused a minor league assignment and will try his luck elsewhere. Since he showed no power this spring, it's doubtful that he'll be on a major league roster on Opening Day. Still, he's very much worth a flier.
PFF could finally have his wish come true if the Padres sign him.

He wants a one-dimensional power hitter who has shown no power recently? He must really misses Russell Branyan.

No a couple of years back he was practically begging for him.
