A federal investigation into the skimming of signing bonuses given to baseball prospects from Latin America is looking at Nationals GM Jim Bowden, a baseball executive familiar with the investigation told SI.com.
As if the Nationals don't have enough to be embarrassed about. Jose Rijo, who just took a leave of absence from his job with the Nats, is also being looked at. There's nothing in the report to indicate that any recent behavior from Bowden is being scrutinized. It may be that his tenure with the Reds is what's really being examined here.
The recent outing of a prospect being four years older than originally thought is what brought this on. I do remember rumors flying around about Bowden but now its looks like where there's smoke, there is enough fire to investigate.
