Nationals signed catcher Javier Valentin and infielder Alex Cintron to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
Valentin thought he was in line for another major league deal as a free agent, but it looks like he's no longer viewed as a true backup catcher. As a third catcher and pinch-hitter, he'd make for a decent 25th man. Cintron will be a long shot to win a job as a utilityman.
Valentin has had one good season in ten seasons and that was back in '05. I disagree with the author because I think Cintron can make the team as a utility man.
