What is going on with the Nats' offense?

I fully expected this team to be at least top 1/2 in the NL in offense... currently their 3rd best BA is sitting at .263... that is frankly atrocious... I figured that with Johnson, Guzman, Milledge, Pena, Kearns, and LoDuca that there would be at least 4 or 5 close to or above .300 with pretty good power and run production numbers... ESPECIALLY with the youth in FLA, and the pitching problems in PHI, ATL, and the Mets

Are these guys truly this far off?? Or is the talent not there as much as I thought?

I'm confused. You expected the Nats offense to be in the top 1/2?

top half... possibly... not Rockies or Mets good... but also not Giants or Florida or Padres bad... with their young talent and some under appreciated talent, I figured top half in the NL was a distinct possibility

Ah yes. The mistake that is Jim Bowden and his sick fetish of "tools". A nightmare that the Reds had to live through for years until he was finally fired. Just be glad he hasnt traded off any pitching spects like Balester for his most recent man loves and gone out there and signed every pitcher off the scrap heap.

Sorry Dave, I read that as 1 or 2 in offense for some dumb reason. I saw them as middle of the pack in offense. They haven't had anything from the catcher's spot and Belliard, Kearns, Pena, Zimmerman, Johnson and Milledge haven't done much.
