    A National Treasure

Nationals signed LHP Odalis Perez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Perez will compete with Matt Chico, Tim Redding, John Lannan and Tyler Clippard for two spots in Washington's rotation. The return to the NL should be good for him, but there's still not much reason for optimism here.
I'm sure someone in the Dominican finds him to be a treasure. The Nationals need all the arms they can get. If Odalis could ever miss a bat, the Nats might be in luck.

Odalis receives just a minor league contract and he has to compete with four other guys for playing time. The Nationals are treating him "like trash", as he would say.

Odalis Perez will start on Opening Day for the Nationals, manager Manny Acta announced on Saturday.
It's only a surprise because most teams insist on separating their lefties and it looked like Matt Chico would be the last man in the rotation. Acta didn't announce who the other starters will be, but Jason Bergmann, Tim Redding and Shawn Hill (when healthy) will claim the spots.
What a jump to from a guy with a minor league deal to now Opening Day starter. Shawn Hill will start the season on the 15 day DL.

You completely lost the meaning behind my shot at Odalis.

No, I got it. I just thought my quote was appropriate.
