Orioles at the plate: Center fielder Jay Payton went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs, and Nick Markakis went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Baltimore's biggest inning was the third, when it scored five runs off right-hander Joel Hanrahan.

Nationals at the plate: The Nats scored their first run in the third inning, when Felipe Lopez singled up the middle to drive in Jesus Flores. Ryan Zimmerman scored the second run when Robert Fick hit into a double play with the bases loaded in the fourth. All the runs were scored off Francis Beltran.

Orioles on the mound: Right-hander Daniel Cabrera pitched two shutout innings and gave up one hit. Beltran Perez pitched two innings and gave up two runs.

Nationals on the mound: Starter John Patterson pitched two innings and gave up one run on three hits. The run and the three hits came after two quick outs in the first inning.

Grapefruit League records: Orioles 2-1; Nationals 0-2

Up next: The Orioles return to Fort Lauderdale on Sunday afternoon to play the Mets. Right-hander Jaret Wright will face New York right-hander John Maine.

The Nationals play split-squad games on Sunday -- one against the Dodgers at Space Coast Stadium and the other against the Astros in Kissimmee. Nationals right-hander Jason Simontacchi will face Dodgers right-hander Brett Tomko at Space Coast Stadium. In Kissimmee, Washington's Jason Bergmann will square off against left-hander Wandy Rodriguez. Both games start at 1:05 p.m. ET.
