WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Washington Nationals on Monday agreed to terms with outfielder Chris Marrero, the 15th overall selection in the 2006 draft earlier this month.
Terms were not disclosed. Marrero will sign his contract in Washington on July 1 and take batting practice before the Nationals host the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He will report to the rookie level Gulf Coast League to begin his professional career.
The 17-year-old Marrero hit .379 with 13 homers, 35 RBI and 30 runs for Monsignor Pace High School in Florida. He belted four homers in the postseason, leading his team to the 4A Florida state title in May.
