    2017 random rumblings

I go year after year throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks, but not really expecting much and do not receive any significant injuries, so it's only natural that once I finally build a good bullpen my 8 million dollar closer gets injured for 6 weeks to start the season.

Use Chad Cordero for the time being I'd say. Maybe he'll re-emerge as a nice CL in the league and you can deal him when Street gets healthy.

But it is funny, I don't think Street's ever been hurt up to this point. you got aced mfer

I loved the concept of Cordero as a set up man for Street.

That set up will have to wait 6 weeks now.

    Re: 2017 random rumblings

I'd convert Kyle Allen to a MR for the time being, perhaps permanently...

Go with a roto of Gorzy, Dontrelle, Thompson, Griffith, Sullivan/Lee/Buchholz

I'd even put Buccholz in relief too, I think... you have some options. Obviously less without a dominate guy like Street. But Province setting up Cordero isn't horrible, and the rotation doesn't have to suffer.

I'd still drop Kyle Allen to the pen, he's gonna walk the world and last 7 innings top most of the time. He's like real-life Rich Harden, but with a much worse walk-rate...

Not big on lack of control?

That was my initial impression as well when I was an OOTP newb (Because control is what I care about most with real life pitchers), but more experienced GMs told me that was the least important of the three main ratings for pitchers.

    Re: 2017 random rumblings

Movement, Control, Stuff... that's how I value it I guess for SPs.

I'd rather have a SP be 6-9-10 than 10-6-8... I guess it depends on how good the 10 makes them, but still.

Endurance can help too. If a 10-6-8 has 10end, it's a different story... but Allen is already down to 7 as is, walked 90+ last season, and I just don't ever see him being worth his weight in the rotation. Bullpen, he could maybe setup or close..

At the same time, OOTP I find is a huge game of luck. So maybe Allen will break out or boost his control this season. Never know.

Also, relievers it's different I think... I've given 10-3-9 or 10-5-7 guys a chance in the pen. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they bomb... it really is a dice game sometimes with those types of players. But lack of control shouldn't hurt as much in relief, unless you're a long man or something...

I think I'll try your suggestion.

I'll put Allen as a set up man and see what happens.

I think it's going to be a league wide tight race all year long.

    Re: 2017 random rumblings

I think when I test simmed in the file I was toying with for the draft... I set every team to cpu before hand, but I did sim a full season just for kicks. I don't think a single team won a game over 99.

It was very even throughout the league.... however again... this is with cpus running every team, and the AI engine is a little whacky. So take it with a grain of salt.

    Re: 2017 random rumblings

I don't like posting stats from test sims, PA, because they're cpu-ran and a bunch of other reasons... BUT... just for you:

    Prince Fielder:
    50 hrs, 160 rbis, .981 ops... and a nifty .294 average?
He did k 155 times, but walked 60+...

Parmalee had 110 runs scored on the yr, 3rd in the AL; Pujols had 117, 2nd in the AL...

So atleast the cpu A's offense was downright dominant.

    Re: 2017 random rumblings

Some more fun test stats... just out of boredom and lack of any other sim activity at the moment..

Jason Hirsh- 7.8 runs per game scored for him, lead the league

Ryan Madson had 6.8 runs per game... (also had 6 cgs, despite that 6end)

John Danks had the worst run support in the league, 2.9 runs per game.

Take all of this with a grain of salts peeeeeps.... just boredom.

the CPU must have batted Parmelee higher than I usually do. he just hasn't proven to me to be a top of the order kinda guy given the fact that Barton, Pujols, Fielder, Mitchell, Zimmerman, and Young all have better numbers. Parmelee's year-to-year numbers don't seem to deviate much from his career average (.281/.335/.435/.770)...not exactly top or middle of the order kind of guy to me.

He only hit around .270+, so he probably did bat in the 2 hole or something..
