This is tough. I don't want to pay Howard until he's 40, yet I don't want to replace him in the lineup with a chump.

Understandable... I didn't want to re-sign Fukudome really, but since he's been a lifetime Dodger in this league I figured I'd give him his 4 yr deal, and hope he retires before it if he doesn't last the duration (he'd be 41 or 42 at the end of it)

as for Howard... With the sliders, and your money at the moment, I'd sign him for that price or maybe offer a little more for 3 yrs. I'd say it's not that steep of a price atleast. But if you jacked it up a bit, maybe you'd get away with a 3 yr offer...

nonetheless, Vlad is just now retiring at age 40 and would've been type-a comp elligible if he played into next yr. The sliders are in a good place and most players last pretty long... although, there's always the chance Howard declines a bunch randomly, but that goes with any player really...
