"i chose Tampa Bay, had absolutely no understanding of OOTP or the value of prospects, and i traded Delmon Young, BJ Upton and Josh Hamilton to the Yankees for Nick Johnson, Jeff Weaver and some other scrub. so embarrassing in retrospect, but i just didnt know any better at the time"

Dunno how this stacks up, but I offered him...

    Lynwood Hall (5.0p)
    Mark Rogers (5.0p)
    Ted Lilly (2.5, salary evener)
    Lorenzo Cain (5.0p)
    Jonny Gomes (2.5)

...and he asked for Lilly to be replaced with GALLARDO
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

    Dry: PM me why, k?

The fact that he even has to ask "why" says a lot IMHO

    Re: johan for crap (sandiego-minnesota)

I sent this to both of them:

I always hate to be the one to inform people their trades have failed, and I hate having a trade council to begin with, but in certain situations it has to be there. This is one of those situations.

It was a prompt 3-0 fail. In our council, the rules are best out of 5 votes. We have more than 5 members just so whoever is around can vote at the time, and the first 3 people to vote vetoed the deal. Later on 3 other members said their share and agreed it wasn't a fair deal...

Council believes that San Diego is giving up way too little for the best pitcher in the game signed reasonably for 6 years when Brad Penny is making just as much on the open market. Not little as in a small amount of players, but little as in value. MNtwins locked Johan up long-term, for a very nice deal... and he's the most valuable property next to Pujols in the league because of that.

Cesar Carillo is going to amount to a 1.0 SP when his prospect status runs out. We viewed him as pretty useless.

Kevin Kouzmanoff is a 1.5 3b, and while he has talent to succeed, he may or may not ever develop at this point.

Will Inman is ok, but shouldn't be anything more than an additional piece on this deal. The fact that he's the 2nd best piece really says something.

Adrian Gonzalez is a fine player, but for the centerpiece of a Johan Santana deal he just isn't a difference maker, or an up and coming prospect even.

Zach Wilson lost talent at some point last year, and while he's an ok prospect, he's overrated for 5.0 stars.

San Diego has one of the weaker farms in the game, and they're just not giving up a lot here is what it all boils down to.

HOWEVER... if you guys are heart set on getting a deal done, and really like the players involved.. I'd say, the best chance here is to include a guy like Cla Meredith in place of a Carillo (who council felt was worthless to this deal), and then a high-risk, high-upside guy like Kellen Kulbacki too... the quality of players going to Minnesota just isn't enough for Johan we thought.

I think I handled it nicely. I hope atleast.

Yeah, I need to see at least one MLB ready difference maker headed to minny for this to pass.

I don't really see the point in dealing santana... he won the division last season, and santana is signed ridiculously cheap for 6 seasons... it just seems like a trade for the hell of it. I've been guilty of that in the past, I don't get sucked in anymore... trading is fun, but I won't just do it for no reason.

If i told you how many offers I had for lincecum and cain, you'd be shocked... but I didn't even give them the time of day

It is a trade for the hell of it. And if he happens to quit over something he gets butt-hurt over down the line, the next GM in line pays. I just don't want his team to suffer in the long run...

Honestly Nick, I can sum up what you sent Dry in response to this failing:

Would you accept such a package for Peavy?

Clearly, it's a rhetorical question...if he responded yes, then he's a bigger moron than I gave him credit for or he's a terrible liar.

I wouldn't do it for Haren or Francis, and neither are Santana or Peavy obviously.
