    Dustin McGowan Wasted...

by being used in a Triple A bullpen. OK, maybe he'll want to get wasted after being a freaking minor league reliever. He's too much of a good prospect to waste him there.

Blue Jays left-hander Dustin McGowan, rated the team's top prospect by Baseball America, will move to the bullpen at Triple-A. McGowan, 24, prefers pitching in relief because it gives him the opportunity to work more than every fifth day, Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi says.

I agree, this is ridiculous to have such a prominant stud waste away in the minor leagues. I have no clue what they are thinking.

2 reasons why this move make senses to me.

1st, this may help McGowan re-gain his control more, by having him pitch more daily. 2nd, his number last season showed a big difference from being a starter to a reliever, especially in ERA.

    last season stats in Toronto

    as a starter: 1-3, 8.13 ERA, 7 Games, 7 GS, 34.1 IP, 44 Hits allowed, 33 Runs, 31 ER,16 BB, 23 SO, 1.75 WHIP

    as a reliever: 0-0, 0.82 ERA, 6 Games, 11.0 IP, 5 Hits allowed, 1 Run, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 SO, 0.55 WHIP

If the reasons are different then I have no clue what the Jays are thinking with McGowan

Well that makes a whole lot more sense than I figured someone could.

So McGowan is going to be a reliever?

I don't know if the Jays have closed the door on McGowan being a starter yet, I know Scott Downs (current long man) will be the one 1st one to be called on, if an injury happens to anyone in the rotation and Pete Walker will be 2nd in line if anything else happens, then there's James Baldwin, so McGowan is still far from being a starter for the Jays

    hmmm...

I didn't know Walker was considered that high on the depth chart.

How far is Purcey away from the Jays?

I'm pretty sure Purcey going to start in AAA this season, he's still a ways off, maybe 2 years at best

Felix was used as a reliever for a few weeks for us last year in AAA. Doesn't really mean much.

Well that only shows that a coveted future SP can be looked at in many other ways.

It's really weird seeing the names of all these guys you saw in AA coming up to the rosters. I don't know why.
