it's middling, by the way.
That's a common fan misconception, though. What Roger had made isn't as relevant as what the Blue Jays have made.
It'd be awesome to the fans if he spent his own money but businesses owners tend to not want to operate in the red.

This isn't "one guy" that owns the team though. It's the company.
Same concept applies. It only matters what the Toronto Blue Jays have made. Whatever Rogers has made outside of baseball doesn't factor into the profit margin of the Blue Jays organization

But we all know baseball, and sports in general doesn't work on a concept of "profit margins", and regular business principles don't always apply. You own a baseball team to win, and unless your willing to spend some money, that isn't gonna happen.
There may be different dynamics involved in sports on how to turn a profit but you're fooling yourself if you think the majority of sports owners aren't looking to make a profit with their teams.
Wasn't Rogers' plan when they first took over the team was to cut payroll and operate the team like the Oakland A's and that's how J.P. Ricciardi got the GM job? At least it was before they opened the bank vault for him to sign A.J. Burnett and B.J. Ryan.
