Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Frank Catalanotto has been named Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week for the period ending July 24th. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.
In six games last week, Catalanotto batted a league-best .565 (13-23) with one home run, nine RBI, 23 total bases and a 1.000 slugging percentage. He also led all American League batters with eight runs scored, two triples and a .600 on-base percentage. Catalanotto collected five multi-hit games during the week, raising his average 17 points. In a three-game sweep over Seattle he went 8-for-12 with five RBI, including a three-run home run on Wednesday. Toronto's leading hitter scored at least one run in each game last week and had an RBI in all but one. He finished the week with a nine-game hitting streak, matching his season-high. Catalanotto is batting .397 (25-63) in the month of July. This is the first career Player of the Week award for Catalanotto and the 58th time a Blue Jay has won the award.
