Article To Add or Not: The 40-40 Blue Jays

Blue Jays Looking To Add Players: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

So here we are. The Jays are 40-40, missing 3 starters, but have outscored all but 3 teams in all of baseball.

So whats the right move for the Jays. Sell some of the great depth of prospects, or some of the chips on the team to add for the push for a playoff this season?

Or stand pat, and let the farm develop and consider this a "lost" season?

I think the Jays should try and get some pitching to compete for a Wild Card spot. They don't have to get a Hamels or Greinke but could grab a Dempster or Wandy Rodriguez to try and fill the void.

They could make the playoffs even if they stay pat, Baltimore will collapse soon and it's between the Rays/Tigers/Blue Jays

Do you really wanna sell pieces to just make it to the 1-game wild card?

Angels are in the conversation too. That one game playoff could turn into a WS title.

    My belief, no.

We've got a team that has amazing prospect depth, something that everyone (BA, BP, etc) were always commenting on as being the best part of the farm system. Adding Marcus Stroman only adds to the great pitching depth.

I would support a deal for a youngish starter they can keep for at least next year. Half of the prospects (or more) are going to flame out, you gotta cash in while you can.

Clayton Richard could be available. He's under contract til 2014.

I'd rather he not be available

True but you could get some good pieces for him.

Report: Padres will sell, but only if it makes sense - CBSSports.com

Byrnes told Sanders that it would take "a lot" to acquire third baseman Chase Headley. Headley is under team control through the 2014 season and doesn't make a ton of money.

Byrnes said the team may not be good now, but he wants to keep the players together.
Under that presumption I'd assume it'd take "a lot" to get Clayton as well.

Headly is worth more from a pure talent comparison perspective, but from the perspective of the team's current makeup I think I'd miss the good pitcher more.
