    Blue Jays Overbay Clears Waivers

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that Lyle Overbay has cleared waivers.
This isn't unusual for high-priced players at this time of year. Overbay is still owed a little over $2 million until the end of the season and can veto any trade. Morosi speculates that the Rays could look at Overbay as a potential contingency plan for Carlos Pena, who is currently on the disabled list with a foot injury.
The Rays sure could use him as could my my Giants along with the Red Sox. I hope Sabean can get something done because Overbay would kill the gaps in AT&T Park and provide consistency from first base. The Red Sox wouldn't have to really worry about Delgado if they Overbay. I am really surprised no one put a claim on him even though its a down year for Overbay.

Being unproductive will do that for you.

    Second.
You can tell that he isn't in the plans for the Jays.

What's the deal with Overbay guys? His numbers aren't drastically off power wise but his walk total took a nose dive, his strikeout pace is up, and his average is down. Is he just hacking more? Is his bat speed eroding? Etc. Usually he mashes righties but even that is not there this season.

i'm not too sure what exactly happened but it started where he got a hand injury in 2007 after a great 2006 season

Overbay never looked the same since that hand injury

and a few years before Overbay, Eric Hinske went through the same exact thing
