    Blue Jays Edwin Encarnacion cut

Was a great deal for Toronto, no doubt.

TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays have cut third baseman Edwin Encarnacion, less than a year after getting him from Cincinnati.
The Blue Jays designated Encarnacion for assignment on Monday, giving them 10 days to make a move with him. He hit .200 with nine home runs and 22 RBIs this season. Toronto got Encarnacion last July in a trade that sent Scott Rolen to the Reds.
The Blue Jays also say pitcher Dustin McGowan will have surgery on his right shoulder Tuesday. He is still trying to recover from shoulder surgery two years ago, and there is no timetable for when he will throw again.
The team reinstated right-handed pitcher Scott Richmond from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Class A Dunedin.

Encarnacion has just seemed completely lost at the plate. I still think there might be something there to salvage, but he needs time in the minors to break bad habits.

Scott Rolen: .301 AVG, 14 HR, 45 RBI.

Which was the bigger mistake: that, or putting Alex Rios (.317 AVG, 13 HR, 37 RBI, 20 SB) on waivers?

Rolen was also owed a lot of money and asked to be moved, and nobody could predict Rolen was going to hit more homers this year than he has his last 3 full years.

It was still a great deal.

At one point in time, it was easy to overlook his fielding. He had once shown glimpses of being a complete hitter, and even with his fielding it seemed like he was a good enough athlete and just needed more seasoning. But hitting .200 with a few homers and lousy fielding it a pretty easy way to lose your job. I do think he could be salvaged, but he has picked up a lot of bad habits over the years.

Twice no less. Beer with your cheerios? Why sure!

I think EdE will wind up on an NL team and become league average again. NL cures many woes. Hey, don't the rockies need infield depth right now? Coors, the NL, it would be like a natural dose of HGH!
