Jays looking to plug several holes | bluejays.com: News

what the team needs, what they are looking for and potential players who could be traded

Payroll summation:

The Blue Jays operated on a payroll of around $80 million in 2009. Toronto currently has $70.75 million tied up in nine contracts for '10, including the $10 million now-released B.J. Ryan is still scheduled to earn and an $8.5 million bonus Wells is owed. Toronto will likely try to keep a budget in the same range as a year ago, though the team has not publicly revealed a limit. Given the organization's current state, Anthopoulos does not feel that significantly increasing payroll makes sense from a baseball standpoint. The club may try to use trades to free up some salary space.
