Blue Jays The Halladay Talk Thread

So there has been a lot of it as of late. And it looks not so promising that "Doc" will be flying north of the border for the coming season.

"We would like to sign him, he is an original Blue Jay and we have never had a pitcher as good as him," Beeston told The Post. "But he is not inclined to sign with us."

If the Johan Santana, Jake Peavy, and Cliff Lee trades are any clue, the Jays will trade Halladay out of their league and for the worst available package of prospects.

By that standard I see Colorado becoming a play.

Interesting. It would be a good addition to the team if they can lock Halladay for few more years. Trading away young pitchers for a one year rental pitcher will not help the team in the long run. The Angels should focus on Lackey for now. If that happens, then they don't need to part anyone.

    Some thoughts from Buster...

Interesting to see the Red Sox become players again. I don't think they'll do much if Clay is the center piece, you don't want to loose him to a division rival.

Anthopoulos better not trade him to the Red Sox because that would be a failure of Ricciardi proportions.

DON'T TRADE HIM TO THE RED SOX!!!!

I highly doubt the Sox would trade away their top 'spects in order to get Roy who is older than Clay, by quite a few years.

The Yankees aren't getting him...I think they're only in the bidding to try and drive the price up and get him away from Boston.

Whatever AA says about trading in division, let's be realistic...the Jays want him as far away from the AL East as possible. Problem is, what NL team's going to pay the price? Mets don't have enough...I still think the Phillies do if they decide to change their minds, which would make them the instant favorite in baseball (Halladay-Lee? Jesus)...but why would they do it now after they didn't at the deadline?
I did a lot of good things as a sim league GM.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

Halladay just thew down the ultimatum, trade him during the off-season or he's vetoing any deal during the season. Go him.

I don't see how that is an ultimatum..."trade me or I will continue to pitch for you and honor my contract."

Its just speeding up the process imho.

It is an ultimatum. It's either finishing 3rd or 4th with him or 3rd or 4th without him. It would be much cooler for him to be dealt elsewhere, I think everyone outside of Canada would like to see what Halladay could do in meaningful games. So deal him now, it's pointless otherwise.

Most Jays fans have moved on and accepted that its time to deal Doc. He's done everything a fan could ask for his team, its not his fault the team was run by a stubborn idiot.

Jays fans just want to get the best return. We just don't want to get Santana'd, we'd settle for a Sabathia-like deal. One or two top level MLB ready prospects. Otherwise I think its better to just keep him and take the draft picks (or deal him at the deadline).

    Re: The Halladay Talk Thread

Yeah, I have come to the notion that this may or may not be his last season as a Jay. I don't see how they resign him, so he either pitch's this season, or is traded.

I just don't want to end up thinking after he gets traded "Wow, that's a terrible deal. Alex are you chanelling your inner J.P.?"

But it's interesting to see what this winter will bring.
