Blue Jays don't want to trade Halladay to Yanks or Red Sox

The Jays Don't Plan on Trading Halladay To the Red Sox or Yankees -- MLB FanHouse

Executives familiar with the trade talks say Jays people told the Yankees and Red Sox that they prefer to deal Halladay -- if he's dealt at all -- to a team outside their division. Further proving their point, the Jays haven't followed up recently on a Yankees call expressing interest 10 days ago.

Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi won't publicly rule out an intra-divisional blockbuster, but a directive to look elsewhere first may come from above. This is such a big deal, one competing executive said, that acting club president Paul Beeston and ownership are heavily involved.

I'm sure if either team offered them something they can't refuse and/or if they can't work a deal elsewhere they might, but it appears that it'd be their last resort.

Much like Kevin Towers told the Dodgers regarding Jake, the Yankees and Red Sox would probably have to pay Ricciardi more than other teams would have to pay.

I imagine the Buchholz spot start against Toronto, was a kind of live tryout for the Blue Jays management and personel to see, and he was very impressive last night.

I imagine we'd have to give more, but if it turns out to be the best offer I imagine JP will take it... he won't take less from another team from another division, he will take the best available offer, even if that team plays on Mars

Well this is kind of depressing. I knew they didn't want to trade within the division but if they haven't returned a 10 day old call I guess it's serious. I have been wanting the Yankees to do this deal more an more.

I think they'll listen to offers, but unless they're blown away, they won't trade him at all. For the Sox and Yanks, they'll have to be even more than blown away. It just makes sense.

It makes perfect sense. The Jays would need to be overwhelmed to deal Halladay to the Sox or Yanks. I highly doubt the Sox or Yanks would even offer a good enough package for the same reason the Jays don't want to deal him within the division. It won't happen. Book it.
