TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays promoted player development director Tony LaCava, one of GM J.P. Ricciardi's most trusted executives, to assistant general manager, player personnel on Wednesday.
LaCava, 46, has drawn interest from other teams with general manager openings in the past couple of years and was interviewed by the Pittsburgh Pirates last month before they hired Neil Huntington as their new GM.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Tuesday that the team has hired Gary Denbo as the team's new hitting coach.
Denbo, 47, joins the Blue Jays from the New York Yankees organization where he was the roving hitting coordinator.
LaCava another team showed interest (Cardinals) for their GM opening so he must be doing something good. Its too bad I was hoping that if they made changes in the front office it would be JP Ricciardi to get fired.
Denbo as the new hitting coach will be interesting to see how it works, coming from the Yankees. I liked former hitter coach Mickey Brantley and thought he got a raw deal from the team.
