Perhaps the signings that J.P. made during the offseason have tied up the budget.

If you think its bad now, wait until Burnett and Ryan need to be paid on their extremely backloaded deals, and the Jays run into arbitration with their younger players, not to mention re-signing Wells after next season. This could be the Florida Marlins all over again, when they tried adding Carlos Delgado and others for one good run, then had to retool because of payroll constraints.

Shea Hillenbrand and Ted Lilly can go to arbitration after this season that will make them easier to trade or let go from the jays' side, Hillenbrand is making 5 million and Ted Lilly is making 4 million.

Molina is making 4.5 million and he will be a FA next season, there's a option for next season in Molina's contract that both sides have to accept on for 7.5 million

Eric Hinske's contract is almost up, either after this season or the one after. he is making near 5 million.

there will be enough money to go around, JP can also increase his payroll by 10 or 15 miilion next season if he wants too

Hinske has one more year to go.....2007 salary:5.6 mil.

I don't about increasing payroll......after this year Burnett will be making 12 mil a year until his contract is up in 2010.Then Glaus will make 10.5 next year and then 12.5 in 2008, then 2009 he has a player option for 11.2(this was added when traded). Halladay in 2007 will be making 12.8 mil, 2008: 10 mil 2009: 14.3, 2010: 15.8. B.J. Ryan's contract 5 mil in 2007 + 4 mil signing bonus, and then 10 mil until contract's up in 2010. What about Vernon Wells 2007 is his last year...................That's sure is alot of back loaded deals.

Some more stuff on Glaus's contract......... he receives a suite at all hotels on the road and he can receive up to a 250K reimbursement each year for "personal business expenses" (a.k.a his wife's equestrian business)- + waived no-trade clause to allow for trade to TOR on 12/27/05- + in exchange for waiving no-trade clause, his no-trade clause becomes a full NO-TRADE clause for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons-
as part of trade, he receives a Canadian Tax Equalization Adjustment that ensures that value of deal will remain same as it would have in ARI- + as a result of CTEA, the Diamondbacks will pay him about 850K in 2008 in the form of either a signing bonus or buyout, depending on whether or not the player option is exercised- + as part of trade, the Jays will increase the amount he is reimbursed for his wife's business by 75K each year in 2006, 2007, 2008 and possibly 2009

Burnett's contract.............the deal includes a limited NO-TRADE clause that allows him to choose 15 teams at the start of each season to which he can veto deals to- + Burnett has right to opt out of the deal after the 2008 season and become a free agent- + Burnett's wife, Karen, is entitled to eight round-trip limousine trips per season between Toronto and her home in Bowie, Md-

Believe it or not I think I would keep Hinske on the team. Looks like hes making a little bit of a comeback and is really turning into a solid hitter.

Definition of a sweet deal right there! lol not to mention the money. Hopefully he has a better season next year. The key will be if he doesnt get hurt than he might be able to pitch better and more conistant. Dissapointing year for him though.
