    Expansion Teams

I'm working on building the expansion teams financial reports. I need to know how much cash to give each team to start out with. What do you guys think is a fair amount?

Note: I deleted the previous thread, because I forgot to make the votes public.

so, basically the cash for the expansion teams is to find out how much they can spend on FA and through the draft?

as i said in the pm... 35 seems about good to me... although its not an option, evidently. before free agency even begins... 35 million dollars would put the expansion teams at 25, 26 and 27th in the league, so its not like it would be a killing that would put us in the upper echelon of payroll.

35 is a bit steep.. 15 is just frightening. Any amount in between is fine with me, though 20 mil leaves very little room for FAs. But, i shall hold my vote in hopes to fight off the 15 mil option..

15 mil is really kinda whack, at least it gives me a new way to plan to building though.

I don't think $15Mil is enough, but it is clearly the favorite.

I will explain my vote ($15 million) to you and everyone who cares to listen.

Expansion teams historically suck their first year. That's what they're SUPPOSED to do their first couple of years. They don't need $30 million in order to compete now. What they should do is cultivate their own farm system, filling it with good prospects, instead of buying themselves a winning season and getting themselves into fiscal troubles later on. Any team that is worth anything builds from within.

Plus, they will be getting decent players through the expansion draft anyway.

    Just my two cents worth.

that makes sense, but a lot of that is how you personally would run the an expansion team, right? perhaps not all of them want to run it like that? it doesn't really matter to me...the reason I voted for $25 million was to give those that wanted a little extra to spend the money and those that didn't want to spend the extra right now don't have to. The difference is with the lower option they don't really have a choice how to run their team, but with a higher option they can choose to spend the money now or sit on it for a little while. JMO and as I said it doesn't really matter to me.

I agree that expansion teams are supposed to suck the first season.

I don't agree that $30Mil will allow them to be compete this year.

I'd like to change my vote to. I can't just assume that the other 20's wouldn't switch to 15 though. So let's try a poll with only 2 options...15 and 25.

Theoretically, $30 million could get them Zambrano, Dunn, and Kearns.

The way free agency works here...they would be lucky to get one of those...real lucky.
