Thread: Vinateri signs with Indy

I trust the Pats management in whatever they want to do. They've shown to be more than capable, and until I'm given a tangible reason on the field (multiple losing seasons for instance) to doubt them, I won't. Blind leadership!

One of the best bad weather kickers ever, in a dome. Nice.

The only reason I'm surprised that the Pats didn't re-sign him is because of what he means to the team and the history...and he was always a Pat. In my mind he's a 2-time SB MVP and Brady only won it once.

Pretty sure it was the money for the Pats. I remember only hearing a week ago that Vin may return to the Pats, but wasn't surprised to see him sign with another team.

Really, if the Edinger rumor is true. Then great, I rather see him as a Pat then Vandercrap.

My guess is money. Does anyone have the official numbers on Vinatieri deal other than the 3.5 mil bonus?

Supposedly the first 3 years of the deal average $2.5 million a year. Maybe he didn't sign back with New England because he was upset at them? The fact that he went to the Colts would be further proof toward that hypothesis.

He may have thought the Pats lowballed him with their FA offer, but I don't know what they offered. He refused to sign pre-FA.

this is worse than when Theo left the Sox (even if it weren't briefly) IMHO.

Heh, really Vin is just a kicker. Kickers can get replaced. I have trust in Bellicheck and Co. to find a good replacement for Vin.
