I'm not too much of a hockey fan and may sound stupid asking this, but is Thorton good?

He better be if we're giving up Sturm, Stuart, and Primeau for him

A sign of desperation by the Bruins?

he's one of the top 5 centre in the entire NHL, he's only 26, 6'4 223, big power forward, he was the captain of Bruins and he signed a new contract this off-season, in the 21 million over 3 year range

wow. I'll miss Sturm and Stuart, but I would say that's good for the Sharks then

Everyone in the Bruins front office can go **** themselves. If I cared as much about the Bruins as I do about the Red Sox, I'd be crying myself to sleep.

Granted, Thornton wasn't exactly the playoff king or anything, but still? What the?

anther reason is their payroll close to the salary cap, it doesn't help that they signed A. Zhamnov in the off-season for 4.1 million per 3 years

Keeping the caviat in mind that I don't follow hockey all that much (I didn't even know who Thorton was... )

Sturm was good for us in 2003, as was Stuart. Primeau wasn't all too shabby either.

If Thorton is a top 5 in all of the NHL type guy, it's probably still lopsided in San Jose's favor, but it's not like the Bruins got scrubs in return

If the last major trade between San Jose and Boston that involved Kyle McLaren traded to San Jose and Boston receiving Jeff Hackett (from the third team in the deal, Montreal) and Jeff Jillson in return serves as an indication of which team receives the better end of deals between them, the Sharks would make out as the winners of this Joe Thornton deal.

That deal will go down as one of the biggest ripoff trades ever in the NHL. The consolation for Boston is that the Bruins signed Zdeno Chara.

It still won't be as bad as what Mike Milbury did to the NYI for so many years

Roberto Luongo and Olli Jokinen in the same trade (which was only done to draft Rick DiPietro [because he was american] and passing up Dany Heatley and Marian Gaborik), Yashin (traded Chara and Spezza), Bertuzzi (thats along with Bryan McCabe for just Trever Linden), Peca, Torres, and there is more I'm missing I'm sure.
