SELL...If the playoffs started today, then they'd play the Red Sox or Yankees and until someone beats them, I don't see how anyone can bet against those two jackoff franchises facing each other for a 3rd year in a row in the ALCS...I'll believe it when I see it. The Sox are 3-4 vs. the Red Sox and 3-3 vs. the Yanks. Against the other playoff contenders they are 4-3 vs. the Angels, 10-3 vs. the Indians, and a lousy 2-7 vs. the A's.

I gotta buy this..Prove naysayers wrong? They were the best team in baseball April-July, by far. They had a little bit of a slump, where they lost a couple 1 run games, but since September began, they'we won 5 straight, including a sweep of the Tigers. They have a 9.5 game lead in the Central, an explosive offense, good starting pitching and a decent pen. They steal bases, and you gotta LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE: they play KC 6 times, Detroit 4 times and they face the Twins and Indians a combined 13 times. They need to play decent ball the rest of the way and they will be the team to beat. What's not to like? They will contend.

Next Topic the Nationals behind their starting pitching defeated the Marlins 5-3. Buy or Sell the Nats Pitching to be good enough to win the WC around the horn to General.

I gotta sell this. Again, LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE: @ Mets, @ San Diego, @ Florida, vs. Braves, vs. Marlins. C'mon now...Livan's hurt, their magical closer Cordero hasn't been so magical lately..who's there to be afraid of? Tony Armas? Esteban? Watch out, here comes John Patterson! Please..the Nats will probably finish LAST in the division, although that's not saying much.

I'm selling. I'm one of those people who don't even look at the Wildcard standings until the last week of the season and the Nats have a tough stretch. They face the Padres, Marlins, and the Phillies. The only I could see the Nationals win the wildcard is if the Phils, Astros, and Marlins struggle with their pitching and run support and I don't see that happening.

    SELL

They are only 8-8 vs. the Braves, 5-6 vs. the Marlins, 2-5 vs. the Astros, 5-8 vs. the Mets, and 0-3 vs. the San Diego Fathers...if they gotta play those teams, then they better hope to reverse those trends if they hope to leap 3 teams in the Wild Card standings.

I also am Selling. Its not a matter of pitching ability, but theres just too many teams to pass. PLus the schedule makers were unkind to them when they put Atlanta, San Diego, and Florida on their schedule at this point in the season, like Providence said if they are goign to turn it around they have to change about every trend with them, and I dont see them doing that.

They have had a great year, but this year they just dont have enough in the tank. Especially with like 10 of their last 16 being on the road where they have struggled. (33-39)

    • The Oakland Athletics and former A's first baseman Jason Giambi have started up a collection for third-base coach Ron Washington, who lost his own house and his mother's in the hurricane, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Giambi gave $20,000 and the A's players had collected $9,000 with more expected for Washington, who was in search of housing for 16 relatives who evacuated New Orleans for Alabama, the paper said.

What are your thoughts on Giambi after this. Around the Horn to Prov.

I think he's trying to help out his former coach. He should be commended and I hope he also donated some to other people / organizations for needier people because 1) he's in the position to and 2) Washington was probably in better financial situation than most people down there, but he didn't have to give anything and he is just doing what he can to help out a friend. Good for him.
