Who are we to say when someone retires? He thought he could still help a team at 42, just no one wanted to give him a chance.

His numbers are beyond mind boggling.

20 years, 16 in one place (you wont see that real often again)
only had 2 seasons where he didnt play 16 games (1987, 1997).
Had what something like 160 yds in his last game for Seattle?
Almost 23,000 yds receiving, by far #1 beyond anyone else like Babe Ruth in the HR department for 40 yrs.
1549 reception a good 200-300 more than Cris Carter and Tim Brown at least.

He Revolutionized the position that hadnt been seen since the Cowboys of the 60s.

He will always be remembered as one of the GOAT (Greatest of All Time.).

Jerry Rice is THE Wayne Gretzky of the NFL. He has 1549 receptions..the next guy on the list is Cris Carter, with 1101; 22,895 receiving yards..the next man on the list, being Tim Brown, has 14,934. That is called DOMINATION! His 197 receiving TDs are 67 more than the next guy on the list. He holds the record for most receiving yards in a season, with 1848 in 1995. He has led the league 6 times in receiving TDs and 6 times in receiving yards. He has 207 rushing+receiving TDs. He is number one all time in receptions, receiving yards, receiving TDs, yards from scrimmage and rushing+receiving TDs; he is a 13-tiem Pro-Bowler; he has 3 rings. His superiority and consistency in a game filled with one-year wonders is above all. Jerry Rice is quite possibly the best player in NFL history.

Gee, what can I add that wasn't already said? Ummm...the guy fumbled a whole 27 times in his career and lost all of 2 of them; that's losing a fumble every 10 seasons. He's got the best hands ever...he's the greatest possesion receiver ever. He should go into hand modeling for his remaining days.

Next Topic- The Balitmore O's sent Raffi Palimero back to Texas today.

`Everything just kind of crumbled, unexpectedly really,'' the Baltimore Orioles first baseman said Monday. ``I never expected that anything would happen to me, not at this stage of my career anyway.''

``We feel like he can do that there,'' interim manager Sam Perlozzo said. ``We will monitor him and bring him back at the end when he's ready. We definitely feel like he's going to play again this year. I'd like to see him get back for the last 10 days, anyway.''

Should the O's get rid of Raffi altogether and should Raffi retire? Around the Horn to Slyder

And leave the lasting memory in the eyes of the fans him failing a steroid test? No, he wont let that be. He is being sent back to Texas to probably get away from the Baltimore Media and fans asking him about the Roids during every aspect of interviews and during games and let him get his head clear.

Where does it say that a person doesnt deserve a second chance? He got caught once and will have to live with that the rest of his life. Give the guy a chance who did so much for baseball and the cities of Baltimore and Arlington on and off the field. You never know maybe he will have a clean renaissance year that gives everyone a chance to remember him for something other than the test.

Palmeiro is 41 (see old) and should just retire...why should he keep playing? To steal time away from younger, more deserving, and less cheating players? He's a bum and he should be gone...just take Bonds with you Raffy, please!

The O's should just terminate the rest of his contract and call it a career. Sadly, his legacy is tarnished UNTIL he can face the media one more time and tell them that he made a mistake and he regrets taking steroids. Sooner or later, he will have to face the media when he retires. Every potential hall of famer does. He doesn't have that energy anymore. Is he going to put in earplugs everytime he faces the media again?

Ofcourse they should get rid of Raffy! He doesn't draw fans in the stands any longer, because he has lost all credibility with the fans! That wouldn't be a problem if he was tearing the cover of the ball: he was in a 2-for-20 slump after his suspension and is batting a mediocre .266 on the season, with 18 HRs in 110 games. Raffy is not performing nor is he an attraction. All he is is a distraction (and at 41, he's an old one) and he should just retire and fade into oblivion.
