Merriman was caught in the midst of his second season. The AP did penalize him by voting Jason Taylor instead as DPOY that year. I don't know what the AP were thinking about Peppers, but I'm guessing they took his suspension lightly since he used a banned weight-loss supplement and not a steroid or masking agent.
