Charlie Whitehurst had better become more than a backup after the Seahawks paid handsomely for the Chargers' third-string quarterback Wednesday.

Seattle agreed to move down 20 spots in the second round and part with a 2011 third-rounder to acquire Whitehurst from San Diego, ESPN's John Clayton reported.
I approve. It's like the NFL is taking a page out of the pre-NBA minimum age limit bizarro era when it comes to quarterback prospects: It helps your stock to not put up any stats than mediocre ones. Case in point, the Browns got little next to nothing for Brady Quinn. There's always the off-chance that Whitehurst could be the next Matt Hasselbeck, but right now the Seachickens are taking one hell of a shot in the dark on a guy with no stats.

Of course, if A.J. blows his newly acquired pick on another nickelback, then the Chargers can go to hell.
